The Certified Nursing Assistant Program is approved by the Department of Health and Hospitals, Health Standard Section. The program is 40 hours of classroom instruction/skills lab and 40 hours of clinical training. The typical classroom and clinical training takes a month.
*An additional 4 hours of facility orientation is also required and is not included in the core curriculum.
Following completion of Nurse Aide Training and certification, the individual will be eligible to apply for employment in long-term care facilities, acute care settings, clinics, and home health agencies. Applicants are encouraged to refer to the human resource department of institutions as specific employment requirements may vary.
Growth is projected 18% between 2008-2018 which is faster than the average for all occupations.
According to the U.S. Labor Bureau, Nursing Assistants will be one of the most in-demand careers for the next several decades.
No standardized admission test is required.
Applicants must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
Please note that a favorable state-wide background investigation report which includes a national sex offender registry check from the LA State Police Department is required.
Please bring drivers license or state id to complete an application and the "right to review" forms. SACS will provide these documents. OR you must go to the LA State Police 7919 Independence Blvd Baton Rouge, LA 70806 to have it done.
Policy: School must determine that the nurse aide trainee has not been convicted or found guilty by a court of law of: a. abusing, neglecting or mistreating the elderly or infirm; or b. misappropriating a resident's property; or 2. has not had a finding of abuse, neglect, mistreatment or misappropriation of a resident's property placed on the Nurse Aide Registry or the Direct Service Worker Registry.
Complete tuberculosis screening prior to clinical orientation and training.
Each applicant must provide the school with 2 (two) copies of his/her fingerprints. Fingerprints can be obtained from a local law enforcement agencies such as Orleans Parish Sheriff Office or the Police department. Some local stores like FedEx, Kinko's, UPS or Background Check companies might also offer fingerprinting services. Please note there is typically a fee charge for obtaining fingerprints. Turn in crisp clear fingerprint cards (two) copies that has been signed by a fingerprinting agent to St. Agatha Career School and a money order/debit card with Background Check fee.
